Sunrise is the new sunset

My location means that sunrise is the new sunset. Getting up early isn’t the issue, and the weather console allows me to double check my intended hour. This morning, there was a mist hanging over the field below; gone inside of a quarter hour, leaving no trace.

A day of domestic bliss

Sleepy Saturday. The pancake breakfast didn’t last through a final edit of the family social calendar. Instead, the dog and I waved goodbye to a city-bound car, and settled in to a fun-filled day of domestic bliss.

A slick of rain

Funny, the things we wish for. After a difficult winter, the summer should have been hot and filled with beach afternoons. Instead, we’ve had temperate afternoons. We haven’t even shopped for the elusive chilling tower that the HVAC guy mentioned. Right now, a slick of rain, barely enough to colour the ground, and we’re ecstatic. Maybe the grass seeds will awaken, and do their “thing”.

Realign the vane

No reason to take it personally. After all, who can see the wind? But when my refreshed weather data site showed the prevailing breeze as coming from a different direction than the official (expensive) government observation site just a few kilometers away, I had to try and realign my personal compass.

The weather is fine

Sleeping in qualifies as “highly overrated”. There’s always something else going on, here in the country. Just this morning, the dog alarm went off about the time that I might have fallen asleep in other times/other climes. The contractor sent his man to do (some of ) the railings, and fix (maybe) the basement windows. I’ve learned to be hopefully enthusiastic.

Stretches of lawn

Breaking with tradition, I opted for a traditional breakfast this morning. Classic scrambled eggs with ham pieces; good to the last bite.  The dog, who doesn’t appreciate how tasty an egg can be, watched sleepily. He won’t share his couch, but my food is usually much higher on his priority scale. Paw swatting higher.

Hardly noticed

The Canadian version of “bad monetary policy” is clear to all this week. In the face of one of the worst winters on record (at least in the east), our dollar is trading at recent lows. Keep that in mind, when you dream of a vacation in the sunny, warm south. I guess it is time to revive the plan for adding an eleventh province, in the Caribbean.

Need some calculus skills

We continue to stumble forward, knowing that someday we will have “the house we want”. Larger than needed, perhaps. More expensive than rational thought would choose, inevitably. The plan must include living for a very long time.

Buried

The Scotties is set up with an interesting format: round robin followed by elimination playoffs. Gives a team with a weak moment a chance to regather forces. Tonight, as the announcer said, “It’s Monday night in Moose Jaw.” And for me, a few hours of really great spectator-curling (should be an Olympic event…)

Repeat until something gives out

For those involved in a substantial storm down east, I am with you in spirit. Seriously. I would have my shovel in standby mode, waiting for the winds to stop moving the target around (and around and around). Here, we’ve got nothin’!
