Check the temperature while there

All I need, to change the tone about this place, is a different genre of music. Moved the “dial” on the Internet radio from classic celtic to classic blues; my dance is from a different time in my life.

Out of steam

Without the proper terminology, I’m going to resort to the first available analogy. This evening, I “ran out of steam”. My own fault; tried to cram an excessive amount of activity into a single day. Now, my voice is flagging, my spirit is flagging, I’m flagging. It’s late, so I can head to bed, soon.

A new kind of cold

With a liter of water in a jug, I’ll find out if my newest cold box is really all the freezer I need. Rather than fill the box with all kinds of expensive goodies, I’m opting for cheap practicality. If I can’t get an ice cube in the first instance, there’s no reason to go any further.

Will sticky work?

No need to search for a definition, when it comes to “muscle memory”. That’s where I go out, spend some time raking over the dead spots in the lawn until pain begins. The memory part: I remember why I shun the rake as an instrument of torture.

Short of pole greasing

My mix of birdseed must be better than advertised; not only does the feeder attract “feathered friends”, galore, but we have the attention of the kids with tails. I call this “an afternoon at the local jailhouse”.

May the waters subside, soon

Proof that I “have a heart”? The HavAHart is deployed among the feeders, and the squirrel that rousted me from a near-nap by drumming on the side of the house will soon (I believe) be heading off to new  territories. My goal, in life: to provide free taxi service for the little freeloaders. Why am I not as interested by the bunnies? They have a guardian angel.

Talent from beneath the radar

Finally. I put on my shorts and tee, left the shoes where they belonged (in the bottom of the closet) and headed out onto the deck. With a push of the button, the BBQ returned to active service. My first steaks of the summer; it may only be April, but I have to push this envelope.

A true tell-tale of spring

Going right past the traditional tell-tales of spring (certain birds, pussy willows, cattails) and pointing out the important signals; one of the Island golf courses opened today. I can’t imagine that the greens are green, or that the fairways are fair, but for those with the addiction to flogging this is a true sign that winter is over. Sure, we might get the odd flurry, or ice on the windshield. Doesn’t matter.

Roll it uphill

There. I finally rolled the table uphill, and now I won’t have to think about it again until the end of the summer. May that be a long and glorious period. The BBQ has a new tank of C3H8 (a throwback to my periods in senior chemistry). Not much else to do, except to find some steaks and start the sacrificial meals.

Understand (my) need to downsize

Accepting that this is the right moment to “downsize” isn’t clear to me. When our freezer conked out, back before the end of the last year, I saw replacement as something easy. Natural. I now understand that we no longer need to store for the coming famine. Plus, it’s cold outside, so if the refrigerator fails, we’ll simply rely on nature. With that lesson learned, we almost went off to the city to purchase our replacement; however, it was too cold. Ironic. Or the whimsy of a springtime snow squall.
