Parking woes

As I carefully aligned my window with that of the toll booth and proferred the required amount, I was completely nonplussed by the attendant’s question. “Have you been uptown, shopping, because I saw you coming in across the end of the parking lot?”

Watch for the wood-wanderers

Just back from supper (we ate out, because… we felt like it). No dishes to do. Anyhow, looking at my calendar for the next little bit, and I realize that I’m more busy than when I had “a job”.  Seriously, subtract that fifty hours a week from the timetable, and I used to have a lot of down time. Now, not so much.

A pen that does not write

Another of the funny folk left the building this weekend, with the passing of Gene Wilder. I always had the feeling that, as he played a role, he hoped the rest of us realized he was just playing.

Our first turnip

This is the first time I’ve had a schedule that allows me the liberty to follow the election south of here, and I’m slightly frightened. Those folks have ten more weeks to get this sorted out; given the procrastination most of us have towards anything political, there may be a lot of coin flippers (or worse) heading in to cast their ballots. I am suspicious that the new channels are going to be very popular, up here, on that date in November.

Running out

Summer is running out, like the sands in one of those primitive clocks. All the signs are there: a drop in temperature, requiring a jacket this evening. Us, out to the restaurant for what is the “last supper” with our visiting family members. Schools ready to resume whatever it is that they do.

The stay-behind guy

I know this plea will go unheeded, but nevertheless… sellers on eBay, could you please identify your packages? A transaction number, or your seller name… I received another parcel, today, containing a pair of radio connectors. Except, I received something very similar just a few days ago, and now I don’t know who to “thank”. A minor point.

Requiring a minimum of chatter

Just me and the dogs here, right now. The others are all out gallivanting, as my father used to put it. I had to find something to do that required a minimum of chatter, so I opted to watch a movie.

Stones of Agony

Funny how the plans for a day can change completely, due to a tiny pebble. A stone, if you will. The sort that form in our internals and then cause grief trying to get out.

Empty those shelves

The one, critical difference between our local market and a supermarket in the city isn’t the variety. It’s the quantity on sale. We have a some extra people here, for the next few days. I managed to empty the shelves of certain articles, without making an effort. No stockpiling, just getting enough stuff to feed those around the table. I could have gone to a larger place, but the three hours of road time is a powerful deterrent.

On board the old lady

On the Island, we carry a special place in our hearts for one old lady: The Abegweit. Not the second one; the original. Navigated the Strait before I was born, continued until I was old enough to accept that there were other ways to get here from the other side. And then, she went away. Sailed off into the sunset, to a new berth.
