Our first turnip
This is the first time I’ve had a schedule that allows me the liberty to follow the election south of here, and I’m slightly frightened. Those folks have ten more weeks to get this sorted out; given the procrastination most of us have towards anything political, there may be a lot of coin flippers (or worse) heading in to cast their ballots. I am suspicious that the new channels are going to be very popular, up here, on that date in November.
The kids set off to explore the tourist side of NB, this morning. I waited until late in the afternoon before requesting feedback. Seems that Hopewell is worth 5 minutes, the Magnetic hill doesn’t have enough “attraction” to draw my gang back in that direction, and the City of Saint John is a welcome halt for the evening. With that, the Drive-through Province returns to its original ranking on the list of places to visit.
Here, I watched the turning of the sod for a first rosebush. Can’t wait to smell the first blossom, next summer. If we can get one to grow, we can get a whole hedgerow… eventually. I might have to start scouting out locations along country lanes, for more shoots. Or go to a nursery and pay the way. We’ll see.
Cooked that first turnip from the garden, at suppertime. Very white flesh, compared to the lumps I usually bring home from the market. Very mild flavour. Perhaps we can try some other varieties, next season. This one, I could have hidden in mashed potatoes and never set of a little kid alarm signal.
