Striking similarities

The motive of a business is to make a profit. There. Got that out of the way. Let’s move right along, and ask a question. What is the motive of a business owner?

A tale of an absolutely awful vacation voyage

Did your vacation go as you had planned? No unexpected delays, or change in the quality of your room? I’m watching (for the second or third time) the Claire Danes movie, Brokedown Palace, a tale of a holiday gone wrong. Terribly wrong. After watching that, you’ll only book with a reputable travel agency. The soundtrack is also excellent.

The corporate promise mill

Now that we’re in the stretch (the week before holidays), I have more time to watch how badly some of our corporate partners actually treat us. Things were better when the phone rang and people stopped by the cubicle with their shopping list of personal problems.

From the rumour mill

In a logical world, the full explanation for a tragedy (and its aftermath) is revealed in a timely fashion. In our world, we get to “fabulate” what the truth might be, in the absence of any information. I’m not in love with our reality, right now.

Shunning the window

I have a long and proud relationship with two “green” modes of transportation; my bicycle (less now than before) and the bus. Probably goes a long way to explaining my aversion to the generic take-out window. I’ve tried. There are a few ATM sites that have seen me drive up (in a car) and contort myself enough to get a few dollars from the machine. Food windows? Not so much.

Avoid over exercising (the brain) in high heat

Having trouble deciding how much time and energy I want to put into a project. The high heat and humidity have sapped my interest in anything that requires hours of manipulation.

No pass until the bus passes

What inspired an advertiser to market a car by showing someone competing in a high jump competition? Does he (or she) realize that I never made it over the bar; always under. Does her (or she) realize that now I will be unable to consider that particular brand, should I decide to abandon my public transit habit and purchase a new car? Bad choice.

Futile quests

After an “assisted search” this afternoon, I have a conclusion that might be useful to others. Looking for something where you DID NOT put it is an invitation to magic. Or disappointment. Have it either way. I’m not talking about an apple in the orange drawer here. This was a typical office search.

Mud brown and mud grey

A blank page. An invitation to change the world. If only. Go ahead, say it. If only a little inspiration will come along. Can’t depend on the weather; even their website reports nothing. The dog is worried about anyone in the street. Four-legged. Two-legged. Bicycle bound.  And others…

Stitch and enjoy

Once in a while, you get pitched an easy one. The kind of day (at work) that can be handled with closed eyes (as long as you keep the snoring levels down). Seriously, when the question came up over supper about how I’d spent my day, I had to stop and think about it. Does going out back to check for new mail count? How about resetting the password on a voicemail account? Or setting up support for a VC, later in the week. None of these are exceptional; it’s just that they are usually “brief interludes”, rather than the main program for the concert. Oh well. Now that I’ve commented on how easy things can be, tomorrow will bite me, hard. Never fails.
