A tale of an absolutely awful vacation voyage
Did your vacation go as you had planned? No unexpected delays, or change in the quality of your room? I’m watching (for the second or third time) the Claire Danes movie, Brokedown Palace, a tale of a holiday gone wrong. Terribly wrong. After watching that, you’ll only book with a reputable travel agency. The soundtrack is also excellent.
I’ve been really fortunate, through the years. Room with a view (and a very noisy waterpipe, once). Enough money to cover my bills. Never met a lawyer, or a judge, and the only policeman just wanted to know if we were aware of the correct speed limit for that particular stretch of road. All in all, a good life. May it continue. That passport I keep hidden in a drawer might give me the right to cross borders, but on the other side of the fence, the rules may be very different. Learned that from the film, not direct experience.
For what it’s worth, my dog has the right idea. Stay close to the bigger members of the pack, and try to eat regularly. Sleep where possible, and don’t bark in the driver’s ear.
Day three of the long work week is over. My perception of time is skewed, through anticipation. Another couple of days, and I can turn off routine for the best of the summer. Recorded my out-of-office email message, just because. I mean, as the excitement level climbs, we tend to forget the mundane details of office rules. Hate to imagine a world where someone didn’t realize my failure to answer an email came through overt action.
