Shunning the window

posted in economy |

I have a long and proud relationship with two “green” modes of transportation; my bicycle (less now than before) and the bus. Probably goes a long way to explaining my aversion to the generic take-out window. I’ve tried. There are a few ATM sites that have seen me drive up (in a car) and contort myself enough to get a few dollars from the machine. Food windows? Not so much.

There was that BK in town, where we tried getting service from a shopping cart. And I might have hollered into a machine, on some rushed vacation halt. But, no. The cashier inside is usually much more relaxed, has a non-linear method for handling the menu (and last minute changes) and while I’m counting cash, I don’t need to keep my balance. All valid reasons to park and go inside. So, restaurateurs of the road; don’t get all crazy because I’m indifferent to your fancy windows.

Next week, I’ll be using an occasional pass on the bus. After three attempts to purchase back-to-back electronic passes on my Opus card, I have surrendered to the method of the RTC. I will call you about it, since your website is devoid of email contact information (although I can register a complaint that involves at least one bus number, one stop and a timestamp). That I can “load” two consecutive months of transport vouchers, or two tickets, but not two weekly passes is a FAIL from where I sit. The programmer wasn’t using much of a process flow chart when your system was conceived.
