And along with the ASA
There’s something satisfying about breaking an old chair into pieces and condemning same to the rubbish pile.

Please, take a moment and giggle. Another funny woman is no more. Phyllis Diller, from my childhood… and yes, I think she’d want you to giggle.

Perhaps I should write a song. The end of summer and the pain I feel. Catchy title; now to work on the lyrics.

I’ve decided to model my effort level after the dog. Sleep until called, bark at strangers and watch for (forgotten) food. The day takes just as long to go by, but my cardio rate is down and I’m happy. Seriously though. Vacation is just about over, and I’d hate to look tired when the cubicle inspectors stop by, next week. I work in a public building, so I’m going to have to use a variation on normal dog habits. Barking at strangers is not good.

Both housework and homework are subject to procrastination. There: glad that’s out.
We were put on notice, several days ago, that someone would be coming by to take the “real” measurements for windows. My effort, back in July, was good enough for a price request. Now that we actually wanted something with dimensions that could not be altered, it was time for a trained professional to stop by. Good. Hate to be the one responsible for an oversized hole in the house.

After my attempt to recycle the broken desk to someone with a need, I had to move on to the next level. Into the car, with a collection of empty paint tins and then off to the EcoCentre. Not what I hoped for, but it goes with the territory. Sometimes, junk is just junk. And so began the day.

Around here, we don’t spend much time looking out the windows. Proof: the furniture that seems to have found that perfect spot in front of the various windows in our house. A tiny complication, now that the window company is coming to measure for the replacements this weekend. And with the clock ticking, I set about moving stuff to alternate places. Not better; alternate. Just to avoid confusion.

First day n back from the beach, the priorities have to be set. In order of occurrence, the kitchen must be unearthed, followed by reactivation of the coffee machine. After the caffeine high has passed, life can progress to other things. Baggage. Recycling. Waking son #3 to help move a ladder outside so I can climb on the roof.

What a difference a day makes. This morning, when I started the team with a whispered exhortation to “Get at it!”, the ocean was only meters away. Now, I’m far inland, surrounded by suburbia.

Today, the weather forecast set the tone. A change was in the air. With the offer of cabin space, the tent was rendered surplus. There’s a certain utility to packing up while things are dry, so the roof box left the tall grass and returned to its place of honour atop the car. The tent was stuffed into the appropriate bag, a last boil of water for French press coffee and we transformed from tenters into cabin folk.
