Some things are just wrong. Like Chicken McNuggets with cranberry sauce, for the holiday season. Or forward-looking (as in future) weather radar on a channel near you. But, we make do, don’t we.

During the winter, I share space with more than half a million other people, and yet rarely hear a live musical performance. That’s why summer vacation spoils me.

Sunday began and ended in a crowd.
Toward the end of a sunny afternoon, I saddled up the little car and headed west, into the sunset. Enough of playing catch with the neighbour’s dog, no matter how keen the game, or the eyes that waited for yet another chance to demonstrate recovery of an odd orange squeak-toy. I needed music.

I don’t have the time for long bursts of talent. Better to take what comes quickly, and America’s Got Talent fits that bill.

A not so ordinary day. Shock and awe, natural style.
We’re in a period of unsettled weather; humidity through the roof, temperatures to make dogs pant, the odd bit of uncontrolled static electricity. After four power bumps since mid-afternoon, I’ve learned that one of our computers needs a new battery for the motherboard. Actually, I’m not used to surges. Back in high school, under the umbrella of OWLP, it was a given that thunder meant darkness. Here, not so much. And with a crescendo, some bows and some tears, the years of high school music are over. I’ve lost track of how many concerts, how many odd practice moments there have been. A lot of vicarious living.

Another idle evening. The theme is Sinatra, and the students are (so far) WAY out of their depth. Drowning. Michael Lynche excepted.

Parents should not take umbrage with the remarks of their children. Even if the remarks are posted on popular social networking sites, and deal with musical preferences. Instead, roll with the rock and get your dance moves on.

Two evenings in a row; music I want to listen to, on network TV. How unusual is that?
Just yesterday, at the point where I was ready to shut it all down and try sleep as a form of exercise, up comes Kate Quinn, sporting a familiar accent. Then she switched (for an interview) into French, and I learned that this was a real, true, honest-to-rosin special with her cousin Natalie MacMaster and friends. Yes, Andrea and Troy and Howie can play, but Nat pwns!
