Sing ye all, gleefully
Some things are just wrong. Like Chicken McNuggets with cranberry sauce, for the holiday season. Or forward-looking (as in future) weather radar on a channel near you. But, we make do, don’t we.
Some things are barely legal, like the rack of repackaged carol CDs over at the mall. I mean, how many days does this Christmas thing last for? And do we really need to wrap each present twice, just to keep the non-recyclable paper mill open for another year? I’ll give that some thought.
But, just when my emotional defenses seem strong, along comes the perfect storm. I’ve seen a lot of seasonal TV over the years. Not like I had any choice. Some programs bear a second or third reprise, and tonight I have another to add to the list. Glee just aired their best episode ever. After tonight, I have a new appreciation for the talents of Jane Sylvester. There is no better grinch.
Not to give away the plot line, but the cast took some of the best chestnuts, smoothed out the shiny paper and retied the bows. With a choice of music that avoided the “worst of the worst”, and some great character play (thank you, Britney), I spent an hour, enthralled. After all, with three weeks to go before we bow before the tree, I needed something to whip the llama (thank you, Winamp, wherever you are).
I’m not going to go all holiday just because of one program, but if you haven’t caught some seasonal Glee, go seeking on the network site. You’ll come away renewed by the pool of talent that’s out there.
