In memory of storms

This just in: a cure for insomnia. Fatigue.

I know, that’s imprecise. In my case, I woke up at 02h30 Friday morning and stayed awake until 01h00 Saturday. Completely outside my pattern, and the result is that I slept through for a full eight hours. For the first time in a really long time. Many cures are predicated by much less. Ditto for miracles.

I forgot to Rush

I finally get it, I think. After forty years of wandering in the musical desert, the role of “Rush” in the scheme of things has been explained.

Revivals and returns

Forget time travel as an unnecessary expense. Just wait for a few years, and the past will get a “do over” in the future. Perhaps an inspiration from video games…

I’m still confused, but I understand

Maybe there is a need for CSI. In NB, a man was found dead in his field, full of holes. His herd of deer were seen nearby. No, dear, not bullet holes. Antler holes. Did anybody think to interview the bystanders? I didn’t think so.

Removing the random from the household soundtrack

As charming as it might be in nature, running water in the house just gets on the nerves. Particularly, when the sound is 24/7 from a toilet. No relaxed spirits here; we’ve been awake at night, and the sub voce about “how come nobody can find a hardware store” has soured family moments. Tonight my excuse list ran out, and so did I. The toilet has been repaired, for a little less than $4 and a few minutes of “arm up to the elbow in cold and wet”.

A battle of bands

Twice in eight days. Out of the house to hear live music. Tonight, a true family moment, at least in terms of place.

Isn’t life strange?

It took just short of forty years, but I finally watched the Moody Blues perform. On stage, right in front of me. We’ve all aged well, considering.

In praise of good fiddling

On my way to get milk this evening, I timed my parking the car with the start of an interview on CBC radio. And stayed put to listen.

Changing my player

In my fiscally conservative world, I have renounced buying a new MP3 player. Instead, I’ve recycled my son’s old one into a new role. If the battery hangs tough, I’ve avoided the inevitable spiral towards something from Apple Corp.

Dreaming of whistles

Did the ground move beneath your feet this afternoon? Didn’t for me, either. The earthquake, centred some 15oo km away, made the news, though. Slow day in the south, I guess. As one relative put it (she lives in that area), “My pool was like a tidal wave. Kind of fun. I cant believe how everyone here freaking out. Stores closed, metro reports massive panic. Crazy.”
