A battle of bands
Twice in eight days. Out of the house to hear live music. Tonight, a true family moment, at least in terms of place.
We were invited to attend a concert in a local bar/entertainment room. One that I’ve seen many times on TV, because the local cable channel presents various local talent, usually as an aperitif to the launch of a CD. Tonight, just a little bit different. What we used to call a “Battle of the Bands” when I was in high school, although no tunes were harmed in the combat zone.
It can’t be easy for musicians, to share a stage, gear, instruments. This time around, one thing more. All three bands shared the bass player. Not sure how that happened, but the guy held up well under the pressure of changing styles and team members.
The first band: Prologue. A good performance, solid rock.
The second band: Pure with a vocalist that reminded me of Crash Test Dummies. Too chatty by far, but a good range of styles.
The third band: PopLéon with deeper musical roots. Some trombone. Some rap. Keyboards. And the ubiquitous bass player. I intend to take a second listen to the show, tomorrow, after I get my recordings sorted out.
Time for the required disclaimer: even though my son is the trombone player involved, I am not (overly) prejudiced. It was cool to see some evolution in his musical efforts, although age and situation are more a reason than an excuse.
And now I must away to bed. Even though my cough seems to originate down in the region of my kneecaps, tomorrow is another day.
