Slightly soaked, or something more

For over a decade, I’ve logged into my administrator pages (here) using SSL. Supposed to make a difference, although some things are done more as an act of faith. Anyhow, the system worked; until this morning. Suddenly, an error screen, showing that the site I was trying to access might not be, well, here. I looked, and then I called up the support system at the host provider.

Dry fields and tons of spuds

With my weather station server now sited “one room east”, it’s time to move my (eventual) studio desk into a better position. Might be the effect of feng shui, but I haven’t been inspired with my desktop. Too full (the weather server?); no room to wrangle the mouse around.

Upset my app(le) cart

One day later, and my iToy, as a friend refers to devices from the Apple Corporation, is back in working order. Their software people released a functional update. The only glitch; all of my data is gone. This required a factory reset.

Not upgraded at this time

Spent some time in the hospital this morning. Now, no panic required; this was a scheduled visit. Along with treating the sick, the building is also a good place to store expensive medical toys. In my case, a gadget called an Optical coherence tomography scanner, which emits odd noises, has an attractive light show and provides colour prints from inside my eyeballs. Pretty neat stuff. Today’s visit was simply to provide a baseline for my new specialist.

Power bump glitching

Power bumps are aggravating! All it takes is a tiny glitch to stop my Win10 computer. Unfortunately, that’s the machine that hosts my weather station repeater.

Take no hostages

No sense taking chances. After reading two different news articles this morning about personal datasets taken hostage, I decided to run a “scan” on my hard drive. It’s been going for more than seven hours, and the end is nowhere in sight. Small wonder that people tend to trust any program that says “you’re safe”. For the record, the two articles involved very different players: a small office and a whole school board. In both cases, a disastrous result to opening a simple email attachment.

No selfie sticks allowed

There is so much I don’t understand, when it comes to playing games on the computer. I was just told (see if I can keep this straight) that if you buy your upgrade in a box, the character starts at 100, but if you download the upgrade, your character is much weaker, and you have to play for a while to get the value up to 100. Am I missing something here? About playing?

The slowed medal count

I think I’m guilty of software disobedience. The latest update for this site encouraged me to “do a backup” before proceeding. I tried. After two hours of watching the blue progress line, I realized that there were other, more important things to do. And so, I closed the page and cancelled my effort. Now, with a new version of software in place, I might go back and try again. Why don’t they (the developers) create a speed backup for the impatient?

The inventive process

Today, I decided to revisit my digitization process for negatives. The desktop scanner can handle such tasks. Barely. Turns out that the digital camera has superior resolution, and when I pulled the scanned image up for a quick comparison, there was no doubt. I’ll be staying with my original method, even if it takes much longer. The proof really is in the image.

A state of disconnectivity

Getting to be part of the routine, this pest run in the morning. Set the trap, go to sleep, get up and transport. I’d like to believe that we’ll run out of candidates soon, but as we head toward a score, I’m unsure.
