Power bump glitching

posted in computing |

Power bumps are aggravating! All it takes is a tiny glitch to stop my Win10 computer. Unfortunately, that’s the machine that hosts my weather station repeater.

I don’t keep a screen attached to the box, and after a restart, I sometimes don’t get wifi connectivity. Or autostart on the weather software, which is a little old. I find out that things are offline when I get a friendly robot email from the weather service, and then I go and detach my screen from the music machine, carry it upstairs and do my best impression of a gymnast while disobeying the general laws of office ergonomy. The storm season will be over by the time I find a simple response to my problem.

Came home from errands to find out that our lawn mower is off to the local garage for extractive surgery. Seems that the dog’s leash was “picked up” while mowing, and a tightening noose stopped things. I immediately had to ask if the dog was involved (mental image of a hound whirling and howling). Nothing so newsworthy. Again, the grass growing season will be over before I find a simple response.

I began my first round of sanding and rasping the cajon. As of this evening, the edges are now rough, rather than ragged. I purchased a sanding block, to allow better control while working with a variety of grits. Yes, there are power sanders available (here). I prefer to think of this as my learning curve. Old ways before the new.
