Not upgraded at this time

posted in computing, health |

Spent some time in the hospital this morning. Now, no panic required; this was a scheduled visit. Along with treating the sick, the building is also a good place to store expensive medical toys. In my case, a gadget called an Optical coherence tomography scanner, which emits odd noises, has an attractive light show and provides colour prints from inside my eyeballs. Pretty neat stuff. Today’s visit was simply to provide a baseline for my new specialist.

Didn’t take long, and the subsequent clinic visit also went well. I’ll have a minor adjustment in the drops I use. Perfect timing, as those tiny bottles of magic don’t last very long and I’m due for a refill trip.

Picked up the phone wire I needed. After a careful drill through the floor into the basement, my weather station data box is now happily purring along, on a wired network hookup. Should have done this ages ago, but, you know…

On other fronts, I’ve learned that accepting to update your OS can come with glitches. The new system for my iPad has been available for several hours. I’ve installed and halted my device. Not even at a point where iTunes can get me back on the rails. The forums are responding to the crisis (it is a crisis!) with the news that there is a subsequent upgrade available. Not to me, not yet. I’ll let the two Apples “talk” about it for the night. Perhaps by the dawn’s early light, I’ll be busily reinstalling all those unnecessary icons on my screen and get back in the game.
