Explore my Island
My regrets to anyone in the neighbourhood left waiting for an invitation to a celebratory event; I lack the skill set required. On the other hand, my ability to serve as co-pilot and navigator for daytripping far exceeds that of the dog. I know where roads go.
With that point made, I assumed my position in the passenger seat, and we headed off for a day of discovery. First stop: Hunter River. I’ve been in and out of the village for most of my life, but until today I didn’t realize that there was a covered bridge, leading to a really pretty disaffected mill. We didn’t get inside, discouraged by No Trespassing posters, but there were some photo moments.
Directly “across town”, we also visited a very informative linear park, parallel to the rail-trail. Lots of signboards, some bridges over the various watercourses, and a good excuse for the dog to explore. On a leash, to be sure.
Always on a lookout for goats, we traversed Kinkora, before hooking around to Victoria-by-the-Sea. Here, another village that goes out of its way to encourage the shoulder season of Island tourism. We didn’t attend the theatre, or feed halibut, although we did stock up on some of the flavour pellets from the EcoMuseum. Delicious bits of cranberry, blueberry and coffee bean, all covered in cloaks of anonymity (chocolate).
The road homeward included a stop at a tiny waterfall in Argyle Shore. Not exactly Niagara or Montmorency in dimensions, but worth a detour. The provincial daypark also received dog aporoval.
