Blame the suspicious woman
I’m going to blame the suspicious woman. Little proof, mainly circumstantial, but today suddenly got too bright for comfort, and she was there.

Keep the mode local. That means having coffee and buns at the picnic table. No sprint to the city for a sit down brunch. Somehow, I doubt that a restaurant would tolerate my stringing a dipole across the table while testing the travel radio gear, so the decision to do things in camp is logical.

Think of the wind and rain as a welcome to the campground. Little matter. The dog simply curled into a tight ball under the picnic table, we shrugged in unison about the almost inclement weather and rolled over for another round of “on the ground”. Feels good.

Early morning starts are highly overrated. Even the intention is due to an overdose of optimism. In keeping with the usual scheme of things, we aimed high, fell short and accepted that being on the road by 06h15 is the functional equivalence to the forecast four o’clock.

Since I’m not ready to travel, just yet, I did the next best thing. I travelled; just for the day, and in a there and back again loop. Think of this as warming up for the real run.

Late to bed and late to rise. Given my silly decision to stay up until past midnight, my morning came slowly. If not for the polite urging of the two pups, in need of my door opening talents, I might still be half awake.

Should we, or shouldn’t we? Does a new vehicle mean “road trip”, or does it require careful “breaking in”? The dealer didn’t mention anything to us, but given the “47 sales and counting for this week”, he may have had other things on his mind (commission cheques, etc.) No ecmatter. At this time of year, we have no place to go and no time to do so. End of year in schools is hectic.

I need to get out more.
Like so many of my generation, I grew up with a steady diet of adventure movies (often based on a war that was larger than life) with all the associated props and super machines. A case in point: the cable car. Where Eagles Dare is a classic example, with a fight to the finish inside the dangling capsule, followed by a plunge to the canyon/valley floor. No idea how they actually shot the footage.

Didn’t go to the hamfest today. Suffice to say, a plan is an invitation for change. By the time lunch ended, the change was engaged. We were off for an afternoon with extended family.

Consider this as a resolution. I’m going to opt for higher thread counts in my sheets. Didn’t realize what a difference a little comfort makes in life. That, and a hot tub are high on my list of things to “get”, after our weekend away. For the record, we finished with a wonderful breakfast before leaving the Manoir du Lac William today.
