Just a warmup exercise

posted in travel |

Since I’m not ready to travel, just yet, I did the next best thing. I travelled; just for the day, and in a there and back again loop. Think of this as warming up for the real run.

We went south. The start of summer holidays, locally, will be with the end of the workday. Which meant that long before noon, the traffic was solid. Almost an hour to get across the bridge. Little matter. By the time the surplus store came into view, it was time for a pause. A chance to buy more cheap socks, some parachute cord, a couple of those luminous yellow vests worn by construction crews and another all-purpose kit bag. Antennas need proper transport and storage.

Lunch in a small village Subway meant watery soup and a consistent sandwich; about par for the course. And with full bellies (not that it had anything to do with anything) we went for a family visit. A chance to chat about windows and doors and shingles (very important, right now). Before dark, we were homeward bound after pausing for something filled with chicken and feta under the golden arches. Oh, and gas. The problem with travel is that the car interrupts us with its own needs. Selfish steel monster.

And now I’m home, in a hot house, wondering how we will get the crowd motivated for the big show by son #1 in a couple of hours. With little idea about parking difficulties or the type of crowd, it will required more than the sort of watery thought found in a “chicken soup” book.
