Price(less)

Is there a rule that requires a cellphone to be in a state of terminal battery failure, when the important call arrives? As we stood outside with the house store on the other end, my great fear was that “fade to black” moment.

Almost felled by a tree

As a camper, I know the drill. When in doubt, do laundry. The ratio of campers to machines is high; if you meet the necessary conditions, just do it.

Circling wind

From where I lay, the sound of light rain on the dome of our tent was relaxing. For the dog, not so much. His new position, between me and the door of the tent belied trepidation over the new sound. Only after being pushed out into a damper world did he understand the wisdom of waiting for the weather to pass.

All together again

Under a coal black sky. Edit that. Under a star filled black sky, with the whistling of the wind as background instrumental. Almost ready for bed, once this post is complete. We’ve been “away” all day, involved in a multi-generational family gathering. First time in years.

Bug spray stories

An hour before dawn, and it seemed like a good idea. Grab the iPad, find an app or two and the draw the idea. However, there’s a learning curve, and all I managed to do was restart the same little design, over and over agin.

Spotted the wandering klepto hound

Spotted the local kibble klepto this morning. Turns out that Pepper shows up most days, shortly after dawn, and makes his round of the various sites. If nobody hugs him or offers tasty food (and there isn’t any bowl to rifle), he returns to his den and waits the morrow.

A flurry of permit activity

My coffee prep was much tidier this morning. Old dogs and new tricks. Now to expand to full-service meals with a cup of basic black.

Tricks in coffee prep

What was easy, at home in a familiar kitchen, took on a whole new character this morning. Me and the Aeropress, shortly after sunrise. Three tries before everything lined up properly, and one minor water burn. A bit of a mess, when nobody but the dog is watching, is easier on the pride. Tomorrow I’ll get ‘er done right!

Blow that horn elsewhere

Sunrise is a special time of day. Reflective. Why the guy with the supersize RV towing a truck felt the need to blow his air horn, at both the base and the crest of the lane, was lost on me. Happy Trails, Camper! We all know about your important departure.
