Compromise

Last night was interesting. Given that the dog had one of his two humans “away from the house”, he had to compromise. Lots of room, with only half as many hands available for belly scratches and treat distribution. He handled it well, managing to sleep for most of the night. I mean, going out for a walk under cover of darkness is fun. Right?

A creature of habit

Am I a “creature of habit”? Yes. Consider today, where I was as involved with those around me as on any other day. Going from a country place with a population of two, into a metropolis with close to a million others, changed nothing. I have some of my toys, and all of my objectives, so just let me be. If you want someone to amaze or entertain, we now have YouTube for that.

Sensory fog

We made it through Night One, without freezing; that bodes well for the next few weeks. Today was not scheduled for travel, as we have family to visit. However, we also had to schedule a sudden visit to the garage, when the side door refused to open. Or close. Actually, the whole door seemed to be caulght in one of those curious sensor fogs, where nothing works as planned. Not exactly robotic, but close enough.

Without charm in the dark

Enough hesitation. Today, we “packed and parted” from the house, leaving the kitchen sink behind after hesitation. The old saw about having room to fill is true, and every corner has a treasure. Even the dog came with bed and board.

Stuck on the tarmac, as such

Waiting to travel, and without any control over the timeline. Horrible feeling, too much like walking on ice on an incline. Up or down, doesn’t matter. The loss of balance is just moments away, probably.

Risky roads

As we shift our spirit into “travel mode”, I notice things. Risky things, mainly. Like, right now, there are flood situations all over the place, blocking any attempt to get somewhere without either a boat or wet feet. This shall pass. Next up on the set list: fires. Grass fires, forest fires, anything that lays down heavy smoke and the chance of a quick roasting leaves me cold. I don’t really want to go if harm is the price.

Was it a pill or a bolus?

If you watch network TV in NA, particularly comedy, you will develop an immunity to LT (that’s laugh tracks). No choice, unless you want to turn on subtitles and kill the sound completely. I’ve learned that the rest of the world doesn’t play by the same rules. Imagine having to choose your own moments to laugh!

But will the writ be dropped?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had a reason to go to the city. A minor one, but in winter, it takes something more than whimsy to get me out of the house. Today, another medical appointment. Minor. And the word that I do not need to return for another month. Well, that’s well timed. The snow is (almost) gone, and now I’ll need to think up real excuses if I want to see stoplights and restaurants.

Rough waters

Details are coming in, from a harbour in Norway. A large (aren’t they all?) ocean liner got caught in the mix of stormy seas and engine troubles. The passengers suffered. Photos of hundreds of people wearing life jackets is hardly the sort of advertising that pushes those safe on shore to see the world from the portholes of luxury.

Upon the loss of my only superpower

This morning started with a quick session of someone dropping expensive chemistry onto my “new and improved” eyeball, before we abandoned the dog to his place in the car and took a taxi several blocks to the clinic. I’ve had more commercial rides in two days than during the previous two decades! Yes, we could have taken our own car, but parking is hit or miss, sometimes, and we were short of time. As in no minutes to spare.
