The table headcount is down, slightly

Earlier this week, I happened to listen to one of the streaming services (Spotify, without naming names). Came across a compilation of Can-con from about two decades back that suited my particular tastes. Of course, the album is no longer sold, but with the able assistance of Amazon and a small shop in the Nat-Cap, I placed an order. The CD arrived this afternoon. Now that’s great service!

Proud proclamation on the box

On my own for supper. The others are off to a decent restaurant and won’t be back in time to share. I’m able to prepare the finest that my freezer has to offer: a baker’s dozen of wings (not just any wings; the box proclaims proudly that these are “Canadian Farm Raised”.)

Exotic cuisine and statistics

Vacations are, by design, short and meant to be lived to the fullest. Hence, the kid and I went out to eat, again this evening. Exotic cuisine: donairs, prepared by a young lady who was fixated on getting a telephone number to contact us when our order was ready. I explained that such a measure was unnecessary, and so she used her own. Forms must be completed, in that wage bracket.

Insufficient payback will kill the print run

Call me responsible. In the good sense, as in “keeping an eye on things” rather than “to blame for what went wrong”. Language isn’t always precise. Anyhow, I decided to go and see if the weekend events had been well-received. Other than a downtick in attendance, it was. Hard to be sure if the crowds had stayed away because there was an event, or if they were just part of the end of the season.

Bland supper

This evening, supper will be fish cakes. Nothing home made; these are the factory model. Even the dog isn’t particularly interested in my choice. Maybe with some butter, and a mustardy sauce, I can turn this into something beyond bland.

A speed limit on gulf traffic

Perhaps I should buy a bag of spuds. We went out for supper, tonight. Seafood. And the best thing on the plate was a selection of boiled new potatoes, with enough butter to make it worthwhile. The rest of the food was good, but this was outstanding.

That bright light outside; is it normal?

Is this an effect of age, or cable TV? I’m rolling down the local road, minding my own business (and the speed limit). In the rear-view mirror I realize there’s a rather large truck, close at hand. The movie Duel comes to mind…

The news will be less spicey (sic)

Great weather, eh! For those fresh off the bridge, ready to survey the quality of our beaches, perhaps. Meanwhile, anyone with a stake in greenery is ready to learn one of those rain dances. Here we are, three weeks into the month. According to my rain gauge, the total accumulation for the period is 12.6 mm. Less than a half an inch, for the Imperialists out there. Sure, we have a hose to take up the slack in the garden beds, but for the potato people, this is not “great weather”. At all.

A field with a feast

The sound of a car horn, in the driveway, on a Sunday? Unexpected. A visit from a cousin and his extended family. After a proper round of introductions and catch-up chatter, we agreed to meet for supper, at the Feast.

Local berries

There may be something ailing me; I missed the chance to go to the pots and pans sale at the arena in the city. I did send a proxy, but the chance to get “yet another frying pan”, or a specialty fork. Must go to city, asap.
