But those are my biscuits!

Our little fox was back in the yard, this afternoon. The dog is bewildered. Not only is there another canine within sight, but the visitor has been finding random kibble biscuits; in a place that our dog knows very well there should not be food,  just there. The trembling and moaning from our hairy one deserves mention.

Lists

Among my library (in storage), I own a set of really valuable reference books: The Book Of Lists c.1977 and subsequent volumes. Why I point this out is that we’re entering an important season, for those who dabble in trivial pursuits. On TV, a parade of lists, dealing with the bests of from the past year. Perhaps not as useful as something from the upcoming 365, but still enough to hold my interest for short bits of time.

Forecasted uncertainty

I believe that the Almanac has ruined generations of “people waiting for the weather to happen”. Hard to calculate their number, but too many among us believe that we can predict the turn of the winter ahead. Not so.I’m waiting on the predictions for the next 36 hours, as I try to calculate the fear factor of a long trip by car. Right now, the precipitation is going to be somewhere between 5 cm of rain and 50 cm of snow. More exact than that and you go crazy.

How did he ever get this far along?

Consider the facts and then accept the conclusion. Winter is cold. The local service station sells fuel that is specially concocted to get through the winter. We need some. And so without any other knowledge, I purchased fifty liters of Diesel fuel, from an underground tank, simply because the station owner says that he sells to the local snow plough guy. I’m Canadian and possibly a little simple.

In a show of solidarity

I just showed solidarity with the dog. Left my footprints in the snow, on the front steps. No, I didn’t take time to find my winter boots. Remember, solidarity.

No pet whales for me

My time spent yesterday on outside tasks was good, on so many levels. Today, the weather went back to foul: the dog was seeking second opinions before any trips outside, due to the rain moving sideways in 50 click breezes. For those (in this area) still trying to get the spuds out of the ground, everything just went a day later.

About that high pitched whine

This was a good day for the main car. For our finances, not so much, but being in a zone without any public transit, certain costs are implicit. Anyhow, as of this morning, the car is inspected, licenses (OK renewed), has better brakes and shiny new spark plugs. In a world of fuel injection, I’d almost forgotten about those little instances of fire, furiously doing their thing, four times per engine cycle. And in a world of “small motor means higher RPMs”, that’s a lot.

A model map

Either the needle was very thin, or my dog has thick skin. He took us along for moral support, this afternoon, while receiving booster shots from the veterinarian. Not a whimper! We were in and out in a matter of minutes, and he’s now off to explore the nearest beach.

DX in the parking lot

Imagine that. Me in solo mode. With a scheduled gathering at the house, I made a quick run to the city, hoping to restock my “shorts” pile. I did it, despite the complete absence of anyone on the floor in the clothing dealer, and headed back home. Gathered the dogs, recycled the dish washer, headed back out.

Double the dogs; double the excitement

Vacation time. Visitors. A doubling (temporary) of the dog population around here.  The two are old friends; in occasional proximity for much of their lives. No new challenges here.
