Forecasted uncertainty

posted in food, pets, Wx |

I believe that the Almanac has ruined generations of “people waiting for the weather to happen”. Hard to calculate their number, but too many among us believe that we can predict the turn of the winter ahead. Not so.I’m waiting on the predictions for the next 36 hours, as I try to calculate the fear factor of a long trip by car. Right now, the precipitation is going to be somewhere between 5 cm of rain and 50 cm of snow. More exact than that and you go crazy.

Reality imposes. We’ll be driving, no matter what. If it gets too dicey, we’ll stop.

Meanwhile, I’m working on reducing the food level in the refrigerator. Getting it all down to a few jars of pickles and some block of local cheese. Both should “keep” if I’m out of the house for a few days. As for the pantry, a few cans of cheap soup will just have to stay put.

Not much else happening around here. I had a distant relation stop in to visit this afternoon, as we took care of our community group holiday gifting. Easy for me: sign my name, offer some inconsequential chatter, wait for next year. I also prepared a small pot of really spicy curried pork, and had to send out for noodles and Naan. Too much, otherwise. Watching the dog begging showed that he’s not that “up on spices”. I didn’t give in, and he’ll have to make do with kibble for another night (he tends to get busy at his bowl around 3 a.m.)
