Double the dogs; double the excitement

posted in economy, pets |

Vacation time. Visitors. A doubling (temporary) of the dog population around here.  The two are old friends; in occasional proximity for much of their lives. No new challenges here.

Except… once in a while, the tone mounts  beyond a growl and a howl. I think food might be the trigger, despite separate (and similar) bowls. Life goes along until, suddenly (always suddenly), the kibble looks better over there. And with raised hackles, an argument. Not violent (although the humans always interfere). I enjoy the fevered interjections, and hope for that breakthrough moment when the two drop their guard and break into speech. They can do it. They’re both intelligent beasts.

I’m trying to convince the air conditioning guy that I’d make a great customer. Phoned him. Sent follow-up emails. Left a question on the web site. Not much else left to try, beyond throwing cash through the front door of the business and seeing what happens. Sure, we’re a long way from there, but that’s why we have phones and email (and he has a plan of the house). I wonder if he’s just too busy to take on a return client.

As well, I’m waiting on two small shipments (for connecting wires) purchased via eBay. I’ve been waiting for weeks (months) and have to assume that the mails between here and the antipodes are down due to  congestion. I don’t  want to cancel my orders; I want the products which aren’t available locally, but the enthusiasm wanes. I need to feel like I’m a successful buyer.
