Is it storm chip time, yet?

Too quiet. Pretty much the whole Island is waiting on a big snow storm, due to begin between now and bedtime. From social media, the reports are that snow chips are on counters through the land. Those that fear a dry spell have filled the tub with water. Shovels are close at hand. And now we wait.

Seasonable photo op

The song begins “It’s beginning to look a lot like” and before I can finish the phrase, the response was heard. “Time to take a family photo”. So many people that haven’t seen (or heard from) us in months, now that we’re metamorphosing into country folk.

The old tomato fake

While waiting for a stone to pass, I don’t sleep soundly. Found myself at some unspeakable hour, searching for the best price on a ten foot section of steel pipe. Has nothing to do with the stone, I hope. And no, I didn’t find what I wanted. Given that today is a civic holiday, there was no chance to impulse shop; that will have to wait for tomorrow, maybe.

Forgotten (or parked)

I do appreciate when someone does a job well. Even more so, when they’re working with “my” stuff; today the technical team from the drapery store showed up, as scheduled. No wasted time here. In, remove coats, remove blind, store it carefully away, comment on the lovely view and the great weather, leave. In that order. I could have futzed around and (possibly) damaged the mechanism or the material. They just did the job and got back on the road. Yes, they’ll be invited back, when the maintenance job on the big door has been completed.

Go for a nap

Is the afternoon without merit? Are you bored? Does the TV have nothing that attracts your imagination, or keeps you awake? Simple solution: go for a nap.

Can we break our addiction to food?

An odd day, here on my Island. Sometime in mid-morning, the Twitterverse started to get noisy: “the children are being sent home from school”. Not one school; all of them. Without a trace of snow…

Go to the beach?

The dog may understand more vocabulary than I thought. Sure, he ignores me on the standard things: “Go lie down!” “Leave that alone!”, “Come back here!”. Just like a preschool child, or an adolescent… However, there are moments.

Explore my Island

My regrets to anyone in the neighbourhood left waiting for an invitation to a celebratory event; I lack the skill set required. On the other hand, my ability to serve as co-pilot and navigator for daytripping far exceeds that of the dog. I know where roads go.

A stalled storm

I’ve recorked my glue bottle. The mechanical assembly is complete, and as soon as I figure out the how, I’ll move on to the sanding stage. This is all new to me, and I’ve already made substantial mods to the original kit. Yes, it “voids the warranty”, as if a box of wood pieces actually is protected from the excesses of a glue bottle or an out-of-control sanding pad.

Requiring a minimum of chatter

Just me and the dogs here, right now. The others are all out gallivanting, as my father used to put it. I had to find something to do that required a minimum of chatter, so I opted to watch a movie.
