Go for a nap
Is the afternoon without merit? Are you bored? Does the TV have nothing that attracts your imagination, or keeps you awake? Simple solution: go for a nap.
Be sure to bring the dog (as protection). Get comfortable and warm. Place one arm oddly under you, at an inconvenient angle. Now, close your eyes.
Oh, the dreams you will have. You may not remember the content, later, but while you are “under”, anything is possible. And that tingling sensation in one limb, when you awaken? Shake it off. No permanent damage done. Remember, this is to distract you.
Of course, if you’re at the office, be sure to shut the door (I am unsure why the dog is there; is this also a dream?) Don’t forget to put the phone on forward, preferably to an extension in another city. Check the schedule, because others might still be awake and miss your input at that important meeting.
However, once you retire (from that job), your day is your own. Feel no shame about power naps. If you do happen to remember something of merit, scribble notes. After all, you still have a bestselling novel to get out. Inspiration comes from the oddest situations.
The dog might be discouraged about your restful state… look him/her/it straight in the eye, and mention that sleep seems to be regular state for him/her/it. A dog’s life. Promise to dream about dogs running through fields in search of of a cache of dog biscuits; that should clear the air. What dog can resist the promise of biscuits?
