Blue bagged pleasure

One of my preferred days in my monthly calendar: blue bag day. That’s when I get to send all of the various empty milk bottles and tin cans off to their final reward. Today, the bags looked sl onley that I decided to bonify the stop for the big green truck.

Real life language tests

Learning a new language is a struggle. There, now you know. For the majority of us, we dabble at verbs in high school. Some of us go an extra step and spend years learning (dare I say it) Latin. Lingua franca, etc. However, in my time, the only real test was going to church, and trying  to stay in lock step with the souls in the nearby pews. The Ordinary was never ordinary.

Sudden escape

An eventual incident: that is how I refer to a sudden breach in one of the Sodastream cylinders. It’s loud, and the layer of very cold frost is actually hand-painful. Thirty minutes later, and I still don’t know if this involved the overpressure screw, or the main valve, or the thread into the tank, or… I’ll find out, perhaps tomorrow, and we’ll exchange the bad tank for a good one. And life will go on.

Still can’t whistle

My first contact with educational TV? That, I recall. I watched an episode of Dennis The Menace, (Season 2 Episode 10), where the attempt by the star to learn how to whistle left me astonished. No, I couldn’t mock a bird, and the show didn’t teach me. In fact, this was about the same time I was losing my baby teeth, and I had a faint hope that I would come away with a new super power. I didn’t.

Back to class, with no pandemic rules in place

You’ve probably seen those odd math questions that pop up on social media. Usually, a poorly defined equation, where the combination of operators and brackets leave those of us who are math-diminished gasping. I’ve been watching the solution process, and what is clear is that a) the order of operations is important and b) there are several variants out there. What seems clear to one is pure gibberish to another. Oddly, that’s how I remember most of my math classes after leaving the safe harbour of elementary school.

Recalling those Seven League boots

I admit, my own travel experiences are limited. Bit of hometown boy, be I. But I grew up with the idea that the TV would broaden all horizons. Still does, when I take the time to wade through the hundreds of channels now available. This evening, I want to recall how it all began, for me. How old am I?

Learning how to do things

How did we get anything done, before the web? I’ve been watching YouTube how-to videos, learning about the pitfalls of a project (that I’m not even committed to, yet). I can imagine myself, tools within reach, doing all sorts of marvellous things. But I come back to my original question.

Involving the professionals

I’m trying to resolve the dichotomy between paying a professional and learning a whole new trade. The story of my life, actually. In reflection, I don’t have the knowledge required for so many things. YouTube can take a person to a certain point (realizing how little I actually know?)

Inspected to ensure safety

This province has rules. For example, your vehicle must be inspected to assure safety is foremost. And it must be inspected every year, unless you decide to park it (safely) until the pandemic passes. The rig is back in the driveway, and we’ve paid the fee of $30 plus taxes. No big deal. Unless you count in the “rider” on the receipt; we need new shoes in the rear. Dually shoes. About a grand plus taxes. Part of that TCO that I didn’t used to understand.
