Learning how to do things
How did we get anything done, before the web? I’ve been watching YouTube how-to videos, learning about the pitfalls of a project (that I’m not even committed to, yet). I can imagine myself, tools within reach, doing all sorts of marvellous things. But I come back to my original question.
How did anyone dare to dive into a project? It wasn’t in the strength of printed instructions. The schools didn’t get into details on anything. Community groups did what they could, but they certainly didn’t have the outreach that we now accept as normal. We were living in a world of half-knowledge, and that things didn’t fail, often, is more due to luck than learning.
If you wonder what I might want to do, stop right there. I have a long list of tasks that I want to accomplish, and my budget is somewhat limited. Not wanting to break things that are already working, I step back and ask the world of online experts. There are a lot of them!
If you want to help, let me know how long I will have to spend on a diet before I go on the roof of the RV. I did ask YT, but (so far) I don’t have a clear response. Maybe tomorrow, as the rate of uploaded information far exceeds the time available to watch. I have a lot of time available, so I know this.
Perhaps if I had another technically minded neighbour close by to ask; they’re busy trying to do the tthngs that younger folks do. Like jobs and raising children.
