Still can’t whistle

posted in education |

My first contact with educational TV? That, I recall. I watched an episode of Dennis The Menace, (Season 2 Episode 10), where the attempt by the star to learn how to whistle left me astonished. No, I couldn’t mock a bird, and the show didn’t teach me. In fact, this was about the same time I was losing my baby teeth, and I had a faint hope that I would come away with a new super power. I didn’t.

That was then and this is now. On YouTube, I watched a documentary about the whistled language of a distant island (in the Canaries). Their topography helped develop a special communications skill. Not going to tell you any more, but you should watch the video. Really.

We had an unexpected visit this afternoon, from a neighbour I didn’t know we had… down at the bottom of the hill, there are small “off the grid” cabins, owned by an American. Little activity this last couple of years, but someone is there, now. Stopped by for a quick greet and contact exchange.  Be interesting to see if this goes any further.

Masks are back, baby! As of now, both BC and QC have realized that the simple act of hiding faces come with an upturn. It might be enough to lessen the intensity of a fourth wave, or at minimum, keep a few more children healthy enough to return to the daily grind of the classroom. With that, parents are sighing with relief. My mask never really went away (I just stopped making public appearances). I’m good to go back to stealth mode.
