Another Saturday night at the Rec Centre. With the right mix of people, and a lifetime of listening to odd facts, we managed to continue our (undefeated) run at Trivia. Won a bag of sour candies for my efforts, and the mandatory toonie. Guess that qualifies as breaking even. The dog, left to his own devices in the car, managed to lay down a layer of drool… just about everywhere. Might have to learn some detailing skills, as my training efforts have proven minimalist.

Tonight, a break in routine. We gathered up our team of trivial nomads and headed off to test the opposition. 45 minutes, each way. We didn’t win. I blame the results on a combination of factors; hunger and poor acoustics. Who knew that a hockey rink could have such reverberations. At one point, I considered asking for an interpreter…

Funny how things turn out. Back, several weeks ago now, we went to an excellent concert. As part of the promotion, my name was entered in the door prize drawing, to be given at the end of their festival. And yesterday, I received an email saying that I was one of the winners. Just had to come to their office to pick up my gift.

I did more today than during a normal week. No wonder I’m feeling ready to get some sleep. Retirement puts a different speed to daily life, for sure.

Peer pressure and penetrating oil are a powerful combination. This afternoon, I finally “cracked” my way in to the guts of the mower. I deserve to get this thing fixed, right? Perhaps by someone else. Let me explain.

Sony has decided to get back into the record business. Real records; vinyl. Of course, what goes round doesn’t always come round. The company didn’t mothball the facilities from before, so they’re reinventing the wheel. A new pressing plant. I’m intrigued, but not enough to consider buying a turntable. Someone will rip the new material to digital, and life will go on (for the rest of us).

Nothing to see here. Move along. The movie of my day-to-day life will have to wait; still insufficient action. Yes, this is a beach day. I watched others prepare for the moment, and then the dog and I remained behind to mount the castle guard. And there were ships, tall ships, just beyond the fetch of the telescope. I knew they were “out there” but saw nothing in the haze. Perhaps conditions will improve. Perhaps the evening news will provide better coverage.

Some fads come along at the wrong time. After seeing a mention of a “stress reduction device for the office”, I had to peek. In essence, an expensive “fidget spinner”. You might have heard those mentioned as the newest plague to invade the teaching zone in a school near you. I’m now left trying to imagine the reaction my department head (or the nice people over in HR) might have given, if I had placed a few of these in plain view.

Could it be that I offered “free snacks with your ride”? Had another seed-siphon in the Hav-a-Hart this morning. This time around, arrived at destination, the exodus from the “transporter” went smoothly. Given the number of trees nearby, I’m sure I’ll have other riders before too much longer.

Slap my fingers time. I have managed to “lock” this site, but have little/no idea how long the restriction will be in place. I’ll write, and then see what happens in a few hours. In a worst-case scenario, I uninstall and reinstall some software.
