I must not blame the weather, when my Internet gets useless. Fog and showers is not supposed to bring my (wired) feed to its knees. Note that I will not call the Bell hotline; too insulting to hear that I simply need to reset the ADSL and my router. I already have. No, this comes down to a crippled system, where the company is able to bill for service that is intermittent and slow. Are you listening?

In my frame of things, the return of the GM this afternoon is remarkable. I now have a new battery, tubes in the silly front wheels, sharpened blades, a retensioned head gasket, grease on the joints… it’s almost as if the fates want our lawn to be kept trim.

The Green Machine has gone for a ride. I don’t know the why, but a man with a trailer arrived in the yard this evening. He took the scenic route, down below, and I had to explain that winter isn’t officially over so we still have the GM in the garage.

Some years ago, on an impulse, we purchased a GPS that came with lots of features. Too many to master, actually. And, on occasion, I let the unit serve as a logger while we visited various parts of the continent.

Today, I learned a new skill. When we recently noticed a small sliver of silicone in the coffee grounds, it was clear (unlike the grounds) that something was out of sorts with our most useful appliance. Some quick research clarified things; there’s a silicone ring that is seated between the shower head and the portafilter. Or, rather, within touching range.

Sometimes, it’s just nice to know. I’m referring to the ability to track a parcel in transit. It won’t get things to my door any faster, but I take great pleasure in using the tools now available from the various transporters.

Some days are spent making the lights go out. No, not the regular kind; the alarms. Things started with the flashing smoke detector, this morning (with an accompanying loud periodic squeal). I tried a number of lessn-than-new batteries before getting in the car and heading for my general store. Yes, they had the correct size, in stock, and I could even try my new tap-n-go payment card. We’re all looking for ways to avoid that virus exposure.

Unexpected, those three power bumps during the supper hour. Not enough to trip the transfer switch, but enough for me to reset clocks in the kitchen. In other words, a nuisance.

My bad. I should have compared bulb lengths before opening the package. Let me back up a little, to add context. We have a small light over the kitchen range. Totally useless, but I guess that some light is better than no light. Given the hot/cold cycling of the environment, this bulb burns out from time to time; usually just before cooking time. This evening, I set out to replace said bulb, with one I had set aside as a spare.

Amazon, if you’re listening… I can’t wait for the drone delivery system to begin. After all, you’ve proven that the post office can do a mediocre job and that another firm, known locally as P*-later is terrible. Time to try your A game.
