Tighten which bolt?

posted in technology |

In my frame of things, the return of the GM this afternoon is remarkable. I now have a new battery, tubes in the silly front wheels, sharpened blades, a retensioned head gasket, grease on the joints… it’s almost as if the fates want our lawn to be kept trim.

All local. No need to make an appointment with someone in the city to drive all the way up here, and back, and up and home again. Think about it. Not only does relying on local commerce keep the money “in the community”, it reduces the carbon footprint. I’ve been told that we need to favour such things, for a whole range of reasons (not least, keeping the climate change under control, so that the grass will grow).

Watching the GM unload from the trailer, I realized that there are jobs I cannot (ever) do. Reversing down a ramp without sight in one eye would be fun to watch, not to do. And as for me tearing down a small motor and actually tightening the correct bolts – perhaps my children will learn such things, but I’m too late to the dance.

And so I’m using my time differently. Right now, a video concert by Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh, which is an excellent way to spend part of my afternoon.

Here’s proof that my priorities don’t match those of certain business people. Right now, before the ice is even back on the arena floor, the NHL is fabulating about the format they will use for the playoffs during the (dates unknown) season.
