Inconveniently located

posted in technology |

My bad. I should have compared bulb lengths before opening the package. Let me back up a little, to add context. We have a small light over the kitchen range. Totally useless, but I guess that some light is better than no light. Given the hot/cold cycling of the environment, this bulb burns out from time to time; usually just before cooking time. This evening, I set out to replace said bulb, with one I had set aside as a spare.

And, of course, it was not the right part. On my next visit to a hardware store, if I remember, I’ll bring the “dead” bulb along, but for now we will tough things out. Oh, and the bulb is in a most inconvenient location, requiring a flashlight and a large mirror to even see what I’m doing. And there’s a cover plate, held in place by a loose screw. Yes, that screw has taken a trajectory set by the laws of gravity, and to recover it, I’ll have to move the stove, with all that entails. In other words, I’m going to be at this job for much longer than I had imagined. Or wanted. My life should not be scheduled by a dead bulb.

On a happier note, we received our next shipment of coffee beans. In brand new bags! We have, too often, received our bulk order in a bulk bag. I then transferred measured amounts into recycled coffee bags, which close with a small wire strip. Obviously designed by a “single use” personality, so my stock of bags was degrading into worthless. I’m now good to go, until the end of the summer. At least one positive thing on today’s balance sheet.
