Barely enough time to finish my morning coffee and cinnamon rolls, before the rallying cry to go out for breakfast. It’s a group thing, even if most of that group had to be elsewhere this week. My bacon and eggs were just as good. With the feeding frenzy ended, we decided to do something different on such a beautiful day. We went shopping.

As I carefully aligned my window with that of the toll booth and proferred the required amount, I was completely nonplussed by the attendant’s question. “Have you been uptown, shopping, because I saw you coming in across the end of the parking lot?”

I’ve decided that the CBC preemption of the suppertime news to bring me suppertime sports has a plus side. I’m getting to watch events that would normally not “cross my radar”. This evening, people jumping off a very high platform to land in the water, after twisting in panic all the way down. I understand! I’ve also decoded the scoring: the least splash wins. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

I’ll admit it: I enjoy local humour. I’m old enough that the occasional “not found in a school dictionary” word doesn’t offend me the way it might have when I was still in school. When the Kickstarter project for “Pogey Beach” was announced, I had a grain of scepticism, Here, with less than two days to go in their campaign, I’ve thrown my couple of bills in the bin, and the goal has been achieved. There will be a movie (some day).

In spite of the heat, I felt like going into the city. A change of scenery, or at least, a chance to watch the scenery go by, as we made the trip. In the end, unable to make a clear decision as a group, I opted for the “silent majority” approach. The dog rode shotgun.

Selling stuff is an art. Especially when you are selling stuff that is art. Or antiques. Often the two are confused. Anyhow, I’m not a big hunter of other people’s old stuff, so my main contact with the industry comes from watching certain specific TV programs. I’ve learned that the price is rarely right.

The email caught me off guard. No weather updates from my site in over twelve hours. And then I remembered; a bit of thunder, in the distance, sometime after midnight. The glitch in the electricity wasn’t enough to reset my clock collection, but the little server I use to send my feed off to the weather site had gone offline.

I may be quibbling over details here, but I’ve noticed something different from where I used to live. Has to do with debt. Over the past year, I’ve had to call people and remind them that they haven’t billed me for their services.

Time to give special mention to “our” UPS driver. In a world where deliveries are all across the scale, in terms of quality, this fellow stands out. He delivers to the door; no searching around the deck or the shrub cover for an errant parcel. He is super polite about things, and he goes out of the way for the dog. Not “out of the way”; rather, he gets the dog to sit and shake paw, and then he digs into a side holster of biscuits and seals his pact with food. Our dog believes!

We’re on the eve of the “big gamble”: where fisherfolk load up their boats with traps, and at the crack of dawn head out to sea… to throw the whole shebang overboard. Oh, they can probably find the where, again, thanks to good sea sense and a functional GPS, but I always wonder. In fact, one of the local breweries holds this event in such high regard that they’ve marketed an ale named for the event.
