Buy, quickly
In spite of the heat, I felt like going into the city. A change of scenery, or at least, a chance to watch the scenery go by, as we made the trip. In the end, unable to make a clear decision as a group, I opted for the “silent majority” approach. The dog rode shotgun.
On my shopping list, the main item was a BBQ. I’d already made a choice as to model and merchant. A good thing, because as I came through the main doors, the announcement that “the store was closing in fifteen minutes and could all clients come to the registers to complete their purchases” was my sign that this would have to be a directed buy.
I found a kid in a smock, placed my order and agreed to meet under the canopy at the other door in three minutes. The dog said nothing, as I reparked the car and prepared my baggage area for a MUCH LARGER BOX than I had envisioned. It fit, just. With that detail taken care of, I paid the cashier who felt obliged to tell me about her new cat with blue eyes and congenital deafness.
My list wasn’t done, yet, but the other big box store was open for another hour. More tiny greenhouses (I’ll put up a picture, soon) and a “travel bowl” for the dog, so that we can provide water at regular intervals should we ever come back to town. We will; I don’t have a propane tank, yet.
And then we headed home. My plan to stop for food was derailed by another store that had closed earlier than I had calculated, but we were home within the three hour envelope that the dog would endure without kibble.
