Just pay them, already
I’ll admit it: I enjoy local humour. I’m old enough that the occasional “not found in a school dictionary” word doesn’t offend me the way it might have when I was still in school. When the Kickstarter project for “Pogey Beach” was announced, I had a grain of scepticism, Here, with less than two days to go in their campaign, I’ve thrown my couple of bills in the bin, and the goal has been achieved. There will be a movie (some day).
We ran out of food ideas, again, so we ran out for food. Or drove out, down the road, to the only place that serves a plate of fish cakes with beans and chow. Comfort food. Actually quite tasty, even if the waitress forgot my glass of milk – I had water, so there was no risk taken.
The tourists are back. At least, some of them. We detoured by the campground to look for familiar vehicles and faces, but that will need a repeat, later in the week. If I wasn’t bogged down in my creative moment, I’d pack a tent and a dog and head on over to where the sound of the surf lulls. Maybe in a few days.
In the government, payroll is a weighty responsibility. After all, it’s not (only) the pension plan that keeps the motor running. Regular injections into the individual bank accounts: the end justifies the means. Seems that there’s been a screw-up, and people are going weeks without getting paid, because someone made the decision to change the software package without testing in parallel first. Oh, and laid off those who could keep the old system running. A double whammy. Could take weeks (more) to fix the mess.
