New blades

posted in technology |

A forecast, maybe a promise, even a hint of rain can change the direction of a day. For us, knowing that the car would be classed as temperate by the vigilantes who believe every dog is in danger, this was a good day to get to the city and take care of things. Little things, like getting new wipers for the car. Larger things, like major phone upgrades. All on the list.

That wiper thing is tricky. The owner manual mentions that they are designed to be replaced. However, no statistics; the when and the what with are open to research. In the Canny Tire store, there are tiny computers… you choose your make, model and year of construction (for the car) and it gives a list of make, model and length (of the wipers). You synchronize the two. Always a moment of trust, when you spend the money on tightly sealed units that should be the required size. I’ll do the actual change-out, tomorrow, if the rain holds off.

We did get some rain. Not much. No on-street streams. No soaked interior of the car while protecting the dog from the vigilantes. I stayed in the car, most of the time, to ward off the attack. The dog thought I was just being friendly.

And now we’re home. My only purchase (for me) was a set of “feeler gauges”. In the old days, they served to gap a spark plug. In the new polyvalent world, they serve to set the gap between the string and the fret on a guitar. At least, according to the YouTube channel I’ve been following.
