Yesterday featured some of the more interesting weather of the last few months. After my mentioning that we needed rain (12mm in 21 days), we received exactly that amount in the next few hours. There was a series of thunder moments. There was lovely weather around sunset (followed by more thunder moments). And finally, over a period of several hours after dark, we had a rich display of in-cloud colours from the lightning, out over the water.

Wild life. Wildlife, living dangerously. This is the time of year that the new arrivals in the local woods test their ability to live in dangerous times, as they cross the road with abandon. Doesn’t matter the species: rabbits, foxes, skunks. All show their unfamiliarity with that other species, the “fast auto”. Here, in the living room, we have a seat on the sidelines, and there’s a lot of imprecation over the risks taken.

There may be something ailing me; I missed the chance to go to the pots and pans sale at the arena in the city. I did send a proxy, but the chance to get “yet another frying pan”, or a specialty fork. Must go to city, asap.

Time to stop with the overthinking. Get my hands dirty. I re-gapped both spark coils; some improvement overall. The choke thing is next on my (to learn) list. This is new content, in my life-long learning course.

I have another “how come?” question. How come, when that guy calls from Microsoft, to let me know that there is a problem with my computer, and I thank him and say “Go ahead, fix it”, he never does. He just hangs up. Is there something that I’m missing here?

At the edge of a nearby field, the dog and I noticed some small flags. OK, maybe not the dog, but I had to know the why. This was human intervention. On the ground, a small green plastic disk, with an inscription. “Vernon Pitfall”. Don’t know anyone with that name hereabouts, but at home Google came to the rescue.

There are certainly better ways of preparing meat for my BBQ. I’m not interested. As long as the meat comes off, cooked, with a minimum of char I believe I’ve won my battle. This evening, pork. Earlier in the cycle, beef. The process varies only in minor detail. Yes, I do add a touch of seasoning, and I’ve learned to wait until the grill is hot before offering up my sacrifice. Other than that?

Perhaps living in the country has changed my perception of “season change”, but there is no doubt that we’re rolling into the summer side of life. More familiar faces at the Trivia evening. (Yes, our team won, again.) The strawberry plants in bloom. The return of my neighbour from down at the bottom of the hill, back from wherever folks go to avoid winter weather. All the signs point to a need for a beach day in my life.

Two ships, in the middle of the ocean. One large, the other larger. Drawn together, inexorably. The details are lacking, but a naval destroyer managed to get hit by one of those container ships. Messy. By the time all of the inquests are over, the rest of the world will have forgotten about it.

Some fads come along at the wrong time. After seeing a mention of a “stress reduction device for the office”, I had to peek. In essence, an expensive “fidget spinner”. You might have heard those mentioned as the newest plague to invade the teaching zone in a school near you. I’m now left trying to imagine the reaction my department head (or the nice people over in HR) might have given, if I had placed a few of these in plain view.
