A rich display of in-cloud colour

posted in environment, health |

Yesterday featured some of the more interesting weather of the last few months. After my mentioning that we needed rain (12mm in 21 days), we received exactly that amount in the next few hours. There was a series of thunder moments. There was lovely weather around sunset (followed by more thunder moments). And finally, over a period of several hours after dark, we had a rich display of in-cloud colours from the lightning, out over the water.

In fact, I can’t remember seeing a better “display”, ever. Made me wish I had some proper video gear. Of course, lightning comes with its own risks, and a house (empty) burned down several minutes away. Didn’t even hear sirens, given the noise from the light show.

This morning, our breakfast area was shared with a group celebrating forty years since the end of high school. Believe me, they’d lost none of their enthusiasm for chatter. Loud enough that I was looking forward to rejoining the dog in the car.

And now we’re heading into evening. There’s a house party, down the road, but I’m going through the discomfort of a small kidney stone looking for a quick way out. No fun. Maybe, if I drink that bottle of cranberry juice… Does that work? Folk remedies, in the time of need. I’m not going to stress over the situation, as we’re scheduled to go camping in a day or two.

Watching videos on the basics of digital synthesis; a bit like watching paint drying, as the various YouTube artists go through the process of making a box emit squealing noises.
