Upped the meds

Still early in the day (supper yet to come) but I’m in a preemptive mode. This cold is degenerating, so I’ve upped the meds. Moved past the simple pill to tried-and-true bluish Benylin. Sleep will follow.

Getting the steam “up”

I don’t dance. Heck, with this current cold (that is bound to enter my lungs, it seems) I hardly sing. Missed a big “do” last evening, with a live cover band and everything, and I swear, I am the better for it. Let this pass, before they quarantine me on the outside step of a hospital.

Limits to my dialogue

Hard to believe that we’re down to “the last weekend before the holidays”. What happened? Did I buy a calendar with less than the standard quota of pages?

Start with a clean grate

The BBQ is clean and stored for the winter. I’d done most of the job, last week, but there were still two grills that needed TLC. I ran out of excuses today, and so with a proper scraper, I removed enough flavour to start next summer with a clean grate. Slate. Whatever.

Clear off the deck

Just came back from checking the mail. Several hours after sundown; any trace of the double-digit temps has gone, and I know that snow must follow… any day now. Mind you, in that total darkness that prevails before moonrise, I am given to dismal thoughts.

ShopVac utility

Brought the “immolation altar” inside for the winter, and decided/remembered that a certain amount of cleanliness will make the sacrifice even better. A job for the ShopVac!

Oversize transfers

Today, I turned two disparate objects into a pair. No odd socks here. I have had, on my list of things to do, moving certain objects into their winter storage (permanent storage?) locations, and after careful consideration as to process, I put away the BBQ and the gramophone.

White is now the colour of choice

My seasonal tradition: note the first snowfall and post a pic for posterity. This won’t last, but it saves trying to tell those that come after me about what winter looked like… you know, in case we have climate change and the segue from fall to spring happens suddenly.

The longest day of the year

Suppertime, on the longest day of the year. Forget that 24-hours-in-a-day thing; governments are even able to mess that up. Hence, 25 hours from midnight to midnight, once a year. And to keep things in balance, we’ll have  a 23 hour version in a few months. After we’ve had time to adjust to our jet lag without travel.

Mastery of the lesson

Isn’t it ironic, that just as the campfire season draws to a close, we have some proper firewood? We received a gift (from people bound for a warmer section of the continent) of a half dozen proper log sections. The kind that will require splitting, once I find something that acts like an axe. No, I don’t intend to get all lumberjack and go off to the hardware store seeking a lethal weapon; there’s a dull hatchet in the garage, and that’s dangerous enough. Learning to sharpen steel is on my “to do list”.
