The doctor is in, again

Looking back, this was a day with better than usual outcomes. I agreed to ride shotgun for a trip to the city; the dog doesn’t get that he could have the front seat, if he wanted. Anyhow, we were there, early. No stress. The parking lot had lots of available space, and I used some of my waiting time to retorque the car wheels. In a parking lot, nobody even notices that you’re doing stuff like that.

Neothis or neothat

Sometimes, a visit to the doctor is simply a confirmation. That you are alive, and relatively well, if nothing else. Today, I went in to the local clinic, set forth my case and received the verdict in short order. Yes, I am alive. Carry on, and if it gets worse, come back for another visit.

Prodded and probed

In the background, the reassuring rumble of Jenny. Inside, life as usual. The power company lost us about 90 minutes ago, just after my stove time had ended, and I didn’t really care, much. The loss of the local FM feed was unexpected, but the CBC can’t afford to have everything, right?

Taking care of the next generation

I have been warned to check a sudden onset of pneumonia: now that I’ve made it through two nights of sleep, and I have no fever, aigue, etc. I am going to declare myself “on the mend”. The lack of appetite is a side effect.

A victim of poor design

Only when you have gone without a head cold for a suitable period, can you fully appreciate what a scourge it is. Our respiratory system works well, almost always; bring in the right virus and you learn what “overdrive” really means. I’m several days along the path to recovery, but this is a really rocky path.

The van has a an addiction

Seems that the new rig has an addiction. A drug called DEF. All of my past experience with auto fuels involved gasoline, and I had the colour codes at the pumps pretty much calculated, to the penny. Now I have to deal with Diesel, and it seems that the environmental arm of government believes in a parallel system. Burn it, exhaust it, clean it and let the smoke fairies deal with the rest. Anyhow, today cost me four gallons of stinky water, and I’ll finish pouring the stuff into a special reservoir with a tiny throat. The bottleneck.

One cottage industry

If nothing else, the current occupant of the White House has spawned one cottage industry: tell-all books. And as a person with time on my hands and access to the texts, I’m working my way through the more salacious titles. Could it be that he gives colour to the stories? As in “orange is the new black”, to use one pundit’s snicker.

About to beg for due care and attention

Over the last few decades I’ve lived a charmed life. Very little need for medical attention. Even less stress in finding a physician in time of need. All the way back to Charlie Brown, who diagnosed my sprained finger with a quick linear rotation. OK, I didn’t say that the care was always without pain.

At least they have cold air available

A busy day. We arranged for “doggy daycare” because it was far too warm for the dog to be in the car while we visited the city. Yes, it was far too warm for us, but we don’t pant as much. Anyhow, one of the summer neighbours came over, with her two yellow Labs and we left with new confidence.

Sprinkler patrol on duty

Part of the care (I have to give) with a chronic condition is to make sure I see a doctor occasionally. When it came to my attention that the last visit dated back to before the onset of winter, I called the office, only to come up against what was the longest recorded message I can remember. Basically, my doctor is also away from the practice, and all I can do is wait until winter returns. If things get urgent, there’s always the hospital. I’m not there yet. And so, I went for an alternate solution.
