Both bins are curbside. Full, to the point where lid closure is impossible. Consider that to be a positive thing; proof that our plan to discard the unimportant from our lives is underway.

There are two types of people in the world: neat freaks, and the rest of us. There, I’ve laid it clear. Putting things away is so much harder than taking them out. And my whole packing situation is a result of a visceral discomfort with “out of sight, out of mind”.

Today’s ponder point: Does it count as a holiday if you no longer have to go to work? That sums up the retired state. Mind you, paying attention to perceived “long weekends” doesn’t suddenly stop. Just like summer school closure. We’re trained to pay attention to such things.

Not sure why I awoke. That moment of silence, when the refrigerator stopped. The sensation of flashing clocks, even through an almost closed door. Just before 03h00 (which is a shorthand for “too early”), I came downstairs. The burner readouts on the kitchen range framed one of the pulsing 12:00 displays with large, red “PF” codes. The cable clock (my trusted real time indicator) was off. And son #3 was waiting for the ‘net to come back.

I was distracted. When I went down to fetch the loaner dog this morning, she was unable to open the door; that’s one of the things that you should teach a pup, long before you get into fetching ragged tennis balls or dancing like a ballerina. We weren’t speaking the same language, either. I’d suggest “Jump and twist the turnbuckle”. She’d respond with “Woof”; still not sure if she had an interrogative or affirmative tone. I finally drove home to get the extra key.
