There’s a rush hour for more than traffic. Try the local supermarket on a Saturday morning. I had to go for milk and tree pee and other breakfast staples (still forgot the Harvest Crunch). Navigating the aisles was fair, but those blind corners were dangerous. Parents: don’t use the little kids as bumpers on the carts.

With a good coffee beside me, and YouTube open; time to play a bit of “six degrees” and see where we end up. Here we go.

I’m not much of a team player. Too hard getting all the ducks in a row. However, from time to time, in a crunch, I will relent and call upon others who are wearing the same (two sizes too small) jersey, to “get the job done”. This morning, I returned to some emails about a particular order for “power cords”. Not going anywhere fast, this one. I decided to share my bewilderment with the rest of the group (hence the team imagery). Together, we concluded that we were right and the person at the other end of the dialog was wrong. Then, I dug into the spare power cord box and we sent off the particular type that was needed. If you have to hold an opinion, hold the right one.

It’s dark, and it’s cold, and I wonder if I could repurpose the beast. Not likely. It doesn’t blow, and I have to provide the push. My lawnmower. Time to bring it inside and keep it (out of sight, out of mind) through the upcoming winter. I’d suggested the task to someone else; he misunderstood, thinking I wanted it to do a final tour of the property under a drizzle. No. The grass will die, and next spring we’ll chop it into something similar to fertilizer.

What did we do before cable? This evening, I was able to tune in to the “Two Hour Crack Confession Special” on CITY-TV and live the excitement along with millions of others. A defining moment in broadcast history. Pity about the political side of things. As the announcer said (over and over again, in a very hopeful tone) “More to come!”… there wasn’t.

With a pot of curried pork simmering in the background, I figure it’s time to write (before I fall asleep). I’m already not much of a night owl; thrown into the equation that silly clock shuffle we did over the weekend and the night seems long, already. Reading various forums, there isn’t much support for this remnant of a wartime austerity effort. Enough already! Come summer, let the sun decide when daytime begins and ends.

Recovered an hour of my life today. Unwilling to waste such a precious commodity, we (in the team sense) set out to make the best of the situation. And, although we’re still minutes away from dusk, I’m rather self-satisfied.

Occasionally, there’s some decent humour on the radio. Today, a sketch about a school deciding to fast track a medical school cohort. “All right. Open your laptops to Web-MD and we’ll begin.” I know that the reality is very different from the supposition, but graduating several hundred doctors in three months would certainly aid a political party that keeps promising to provide “a family doctor for everyone”. Come on, giggle…

Too much rain. Too much wind. Too warm. Heading home from a day with 60 mm of newly deposited water, blown about by breezes reaching 90 kph, and a thermometer that maxed out at 18C; not exactly traditional fare for November. But, enough about the weather.
