Blame it on the stealthy bus

My vindication was short-lived, By suppertime this evening, over  half the box of peaches had dissolved into compost. Less than 24 hours. How do they do that (the fruit sellers), and do they think I’ll get fooled again? Back to canned and drowned in syrup, I guess.

Vindication

I am vindicated! This evening, as part of my go for broke (groceries), I purchased another of those 3 litre plastic packs of peaches. And this time around, no spoilage. Given the shelf life, here, we should avoid any risk during the next 24 hours.

On the green carpet?

You can always go back… musically. Spent part of the is afternoon listening to the Moody Blues, and it’s as if the last forty years hadn’t happened. Just as good, this time around. There’s actually a new box set out, Timeless Flight, and I can see how it would rate a place on any fan’s shelf. Bit pricey, but what isn’t?

Musical trivia

When the highlight of the day is a short trip to gas the car and buy takeout, it’s a safe bet that your life won’t be the inspiration for a blockbuster movie. Not even one of those “straight to video” titles. Oh well.

Good giggle provided, free of charge

At least somebody had a good giggle over the situation. I was out buying school supplies this evening (there are more than students in the market for good binders and such), and my list was simple. Two articles. Back home, I was graded, and I failed. Miserably.

Return to old school

I am not a Luddite. However,  sometimes the old technology would do, where the new has taken root.

Case in point, the telephone. I carry a smartphone, and my monthly minutes use can be calculated using the  fingers of one hand. At home, the wallphone serves only to interrupt life. And in the office; I would gladly return to the days of a rotary dial and a handset that could double as a defensive arm.

Collusion as a collision of spirits

The transit system is starting to stabilize. Two days in a row; home in reasonable time. The police (that wave their arms) are improving their technique, and the the new “terminus” on the university campus is starting to herd the stampede. Or something like that. I’m glad, because spending the winter waiting for late transit would not be a “fun activity”.

Perhaps some human-powered tools

In an illustration of the “work for your supper” meme, someone on TV is grinding the flour, to make the bread. Using a mill driven by a bicycle-based belt drive. Food for thought. What if? Buy some junker bikes, and a small welding system. Read up on the mechanics. And then, in a burst of cardio training, convert my ecosystem. Charge batteries. Pump water. Tow a lawn mower. And grind stuff. Not likely to happen, but the idea has merit.

Little interest in our little market

Oh, how quickly those free hours erode!  Our last scheduled long weekend before mid-December is now just a tick on my calendar. Tomorrow, education begins in earnest, and I’ll have my part to play. Oh, wait… just checked my calendar, and there’s another 3-day pause in mid-October. My optimism level just climbed higher.

Movie plots to teach about inflation

One advantage of getting older is that you’re allowed to watch stuff you missed the first time around. James Bond movies, for example. I was too young (and highly disinterested)  when the early movies had big screen presence. Over the years, the plot lines blurred, and  the music became familiar. And now, thanks to the cable network’s need to fill holiday hours with stuff people might want to see, there’s a marathon underway.
