Little interest in our little market

posted in economy |

Oh, how quickly those free hours erode!  Our last scheduled long weekend before mid-December is now just a tick on my calendar. Tomorrow, education begins in earnest, and I’ll have my part to play. Oh, wait… just checked my calendar, and there’s another 3-day pause in mid-October. My optimism level just climbed higher.

In the news,  the cellphone industry is also “greatly relieved”. Seems that a huge corporation from south of here has decided that our market isn’t really worth the investment. If I was one of our Big Three, I might take a moment to consider something important. Given ANY opportunity, your customer base will leave you, with only an impolite goodbye. You have no loyalty quotient.

Another news question wonders if Canada is ready for driverless cars. Hey! They’re already here, thanks to the cellphone industry. As a pedestrian, I affirm that any driver with one hand cupped to the ear, or two hands thumbing a gadget in their lap is effectively no longer in control. No possible eye contact. No predictable trajectory for the car, over and over again. Scary. At least with the Google model, something will be looking outside the cubicle. How did those idiots get through the day before signing on for cell service?

And in a final news article that raised more questions than answers, a scientist believes that, somewhere in the southern part of this province, the traces of a giant prehistoric meteor will be found. And? Is this a call for shovels in the ground?
