Discreetly circling the perimeter

Coming away from breakfast, we couldn’t help but notice that the big rig parked next to our car had a familiar profile. Not identical to ours, but close enough that we started (discreetly) circling the perimeter, for a closer inspection. Not so discreetly, I guess; the owner eventually came out to inquire about our undue attention. And thus began  the dialogue.

Imagine the symphony, in your own home!

Help me! I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole, and now my world is filled with sonic dreams.

My fault, really. After ignoring “synthesis” for better than forty years, I made the slip of buying something simple. Inexpensive. And of course, it can’t do what the big toys can. To compensate, I started paying attention to the reviews on YouTube. Thank you, Nick and Woody. Now I want to twiddle knobs and check waveforms, without any clear vision. Just like the others.

Breaking the fast comunally

Listen to the word: Breakfast. Split the word into syllables. Break-fast. Now apply context. You’re out of bed, and hungry, The first meal of your day. As a complication, go out (far from the comfort an familiarity of your own kitchen. I don’t care. Restaurant. Community centre.

Temporary darkness, elsewhere

Turns out, my worry was just that. We swapped out some fuses, and the whole waste evacuation system in the RV works as it should. Now if I could only locate my own fuse panel, and see if that kidney silliness will go away.

Picking a better way to listen

After spending an hour or two in the catalogs, I almost wish for the good old days. Back when what you built up yourself was suitable, little matter the project.

Summer talent

Tonight, live on our stage! Actually, so many people. We had tickets to a local concert, picked up a couple of weeks back and held by a strong magnet to the fridge door (one way to lessen house loss). This evening, in spite of some wet and windy weather, we headed out to the community of Goose River.

Turning back the clock, for a few hours

Two hours along, with a continuous feed of EDM from Deadmau5. I’m confused; it all sounds good, but none of it will be remembered five minutes from now. And as for the dancing, I kept that strictly metaphysical, so I’m not even strained. Time to move the dial (OK, the YouTube channel) to something different.

And it could sing!

Even before I understood what a computer was, I knew it could be used to make music. In 1968, my high school library had an AV section, with listening booths containing turntables. The holdings, albeit limited, contained a new album called Switched-On Bach, by Walter/Wendy Carlos. My normal chair in the music classroom put me due south of the row of clarinets, so I had a firm grasp on “analog” and its limitations. This was different. It was digital.

A price check

Time for a price snapshot. In this case, gas by provinces, as of early May 2018. Meaningless, but interesting eventually. Bear with me.

Talent from beneath the radar

Finally. I put on my shorts and tee, left the shoes where they belonged (in the bottom of the closet) and headed out onto the deck. With a push of the button, the BBQ returned to active service. My first steaks of the summer; it may only be April, but I have to push this envelope.
