Discreetly circling the perimeter

posted in music |

Coming away from breakfast, we couldn’t help but notice that the big rig parked next to our car had a familiar profile. Not identical to ours, but close enough that we started (discreetly) circling the perimeter, for a closer inspection. Not so discreetly, I guess; the owner eventually came out to inquire about our undue attention. And thus began  the dialogue.

This was the same year and chassis, but the “house” was done by the competition. Our first chance to see how others in the class handled things. I believe we did well; nothing is perfect, but this one had shortcomings that I’m glad to have avoided. We received some important tips about mechanical weak points and advice on our next set of tires. All that, for a few minutes of parking lot time.

I had a monthly meeting of the local history group, where the only topic on the table was how to create a small library of family trees for this area. I don’t agree with the approach (completing family group sheets, in pencil) but the motivation is worthwhile.

This evening, the live stream from the final evening at Celtic Colours 2018. Some familiar faces, some familiar tunes. A note to learn more about the “Naomhóg” that was constructed for this year’s festival. Remember, this festival is not restricted to the back roads of Mabou. There’s an important outreach to Scotland and Ireland. My greatest satisfaction was listening to a new song, and realizing that I understood much more than I would have wagered.
