I need to get out more. Perhaps not need; should. Over
coffee, this morning, we played with the idea of going on a combined drive/walk
trip, halfway across the Island. Even went so far as to examine a map of the
proposed trail, before letting the idea slip away. It seemed like “too far”,
which means we are becoming like our neighbours. Without an important reason,
why go all that distance? You would think we kept a horse, and had to figure
out how to hide the hay bales in the back of the cariole. I’d say, maybe,
tomorrow. But the contractor should be back, and we promised to be around.
Getting hard to get away.

Went for a long walk on the beach, this afternoon. There are no reference points, but let’s make a rough estimate, that the distance was about eight kilometers. Not much of a sample, but enough to make one thing clear. On a beach, for all the hype about “every particle of sand being unique”, there’s a remarkable sameness. Sand is sand (is sand), and it has an amazing ability to get inside shoes. Take that, fractal theory!

Had my first peek inside of a malfunctioning Mac this evening. A newish one, with a tiny SSD drive and an interface that was completely unlike any other gear I have in the house. Beyond my ken. All I could do was to seal the drive into an antistatic bag, close up shop and hope that a better equipped repair shop can move things to the next level.

From my “I really don’t understand!” files. Vaping. When the president of those United States makes a speech about the new health risk, one has to pause and wonder. You see, I don’t have any urge to breathe air that is polluted. Not from the exhaust of a passing truck, and not from a small device that was designed (apparently) to wean people from self-inflicted injury. The last few weeks have brought reports of deaths by haze, and there’s no explanation coming along, other than that this is the latest in a frontal attack by the tobacco industry on individuals. Haven’t we put up with enough of their corporate nonsense? Please, don’t start, and stop if you already have: coming from one of the industry spokespeople, isn’t the message clear enough?

Almost too fast; son #1 and his faithful sidekick Maggie are back on the road. Good weather, well rested, what could go wrong? My hope is that this will encourage other visits, more often, perhaps even in “the heart of winter” so he can learn that blizzards are really a state of mind.

As of this afternoon, there are no hurricanes inbound. I want that recorded, in case I try to plan a quick trip down into the tropics. The reality is that we can’t go away, right now; our own personal hurricanes are inbound, but in a couple of weeks we could just latch the door and let the compass dictate a destination.

This evening, I am going to end one of the most intense adventures of my lifetime. Back in early May, we set forth to see what lay over the horizon. Here we are, forty-eight days later, and I can say that I have covered a great deal of ground, without satisfying the itch.

Call thus our conservation day; we did no road time. Content to be able to visit with old friends, and eat home cooking, this was a chance to rest befire our final sprint.

We had some serious shopping ahead, this morning. Son #2 had tasked us with an open-ended list: find the finest of fresh local ales. Of course, the first address we had was out of business, but the net came through with an alternate possibility. There, intrigued with our quest, a clerk stayed close by to provide solid advice. And with our purchases paid and packed, we started the long slog across northern Maine.

Once again, I forget to start the GPS recorder before setting out. Guess my trip map will have some unexplained empty segments. Oh well.
