Our own celebratory bonfire

posted in travel |

Call thus our conservation day; we did no road time. Content to be able to visit with old friends, and eat home cooking, this was a chance to rest befire our final sprint.

We considered taking the boat in the early afternoon, but it was  breezy. Much simpler to coach in the production of a big feed of pulled pork, watch some random TV, convince the dog that this was what he wanted (a couple if long walks down the road, etc) and test my ability to nap discretely. Tomorrow, getting a place in the ferry queue should be easier.

This evening, a roaring bonfire replaced the TV time, after some jokes about having a local version of the “feu de St-Jean”. No trad music, but sacrifices are required. As the sun sets across the field, I have hinted to the dog that he should go to bed, since his afternoon on a blanket on the living room floor could hardly suffice.

I wonder if the kids are celebrating. Not sure that they are drawn to the heavily policed gathering on the Plains any more. I’ll ask, later.

since shopping is a continuous process, I looked into ordering an extra power cable for the new radio. There is a lot of variety, but the quality and price cover a wide range. I could pay  from $10 to $110 for what seems to be a very non-descript harness. Maybe I already have something in the wire box. I’ll check, once we get home. No rush, really.
