Unfounded forecasting
Almost too fast; son #1 and his faithful sidekick Maggie are back on the road. Good weather, well rested, what could go wrong? My hope is that this will encourage other visits, more often, perhaps even in “the heart of winter” so he can learn that blizzards are really a state of mind.
Meanwhile, the basement is back in disorder, waiting for construction to resume. No rush, but I look forward to putting my stuff back out of boxes, and perhaps (fingers crossed) producing something “for the record”. Waiting for a muse-driven impulse.
Spent some time watching music videos: not your usual pop content; better. Will that be my inspiration? Maybe. Not closing any mental doors. And since this is all for my satisfaction, I don’t need to get neurotic over crediting any musical memories that hang on into my own compositions. Hey, I can do covers. No shame there.
Finally, a tempered commentary on the forecasts of the Almanac. You know which one. Every year, the publication lays down a steady stream of “winter is coming” and “winter will be cold with warm periods”. Hey, we live in Canada. No need to purchase a paperback digest to get those tidbits. Even with lots of folky phrasing, their accuracy remains steadfastly ordinary. Don’t plan your daily travels by the charts.
The publishers claim that their models are astronomical and mathematical. Isn’t that what the astrology crowd claim, as well? And when you take their couple of centuries of “for the record”, it doesn’t match up any more than random coin tosses. I’ll abstain, thank you.
